History
Lothlorien
was the name Paul gave the Cottage when we moved in that special day,
5th September 1985. The name originates from the magical forest in JRR
Tolkien's book The Lord of the Rings.
The outlook was divine, you were elevated and immediately you felt at
one with Mother Nature. As you overlooked the treetops, a feeling
of peace and tranquility descended. Lothlorien was indeed a
lovely little hideaway set among the treetops, you had the illusion you
were living in the country yet the city centre was only 4kms away.
The cottage was moved to London Terrace in the
1950’s. We were thrilled to be recipients of these original
photographs which add to the special history belonging to Lothlorien.

Overseeing the move
Paul and I lived
very
happily here at Lothlorien, raising our three sons; Sam, Sean and
Christopher all of whom have grown into fine young men. Our
glorious third son holds Lothlorien very dear as he was born here, the
sacredness of creating new life and of growing young at Lothlorien has
been very special and very dear to our family’s heart. Not only have
our family considered Lothlorien a special place, we have also had many
people relay this feeling over the years on numerous occasions.
These
foundations were laid in the 1990’s – I was working part
time as a
Reiki Practitioner and Homeopath, my business was the Golden Light
Healing Centre. Timing is everything and as a
mother of 3 young children I did not have time to continue with my
practice, and chose to close the door.
The door was re-opened with the support of Paul and teenage sons,
Lothlorien was dedicated a ‘place
of healing’ September
2004. Over the next couple of years time was spent re-educating,
creating and gathering all
of what was required to make Lothlorien Retreat the special place
it is.
Lothlorien
Retreat Limited was established Monday the 15th January 2007,
a very happy day.
From humble beginnings in the 20th century
as a farm cottage, Lothlorien continues its evolution into the 21st century as a cottage retreat. It is a place to come for a holiday, a place of
rest and relaxation, a place of healing offering holistic health spa
therapy, a place of
peaceful surrounds where everyday folks can
retreat into the treetops. Lothlorien, a place like no
other, like Taranaki which is Legendary.
Today
Lothlorien welcomes you...
as you take time to relax and explore the
magic of New Plymouth,
Taranaki.
Hope
to see you soon!
